Daily Spanish Tip: Tiempo vs Vez vs Hora

All three words relate to time, but they have different uses:

Tiempo → Refers to time in a general sense or duration.

No tengo tiempo para estudiar. (I don’t have time to study.)

El tiempo vuela. (Time flies.)

Vez → Refers to an occurrence or instance of something.

Es la primera vez que viajo a España. (It’s the first time I travel to Spain.)

He estado allí dos veces. (I have been there two times.)

Hora → Refers to the specific time of day.

¿Qué hora es? (What time is it?)

La película empieza a las 8 en punto. (The movie starts at 8 o’clock.)

Think: Tiempo = duration | Vez = instance | Hora = clock time!
